The article theoretically examines the problem of psychological compatibility among residents of institutions providing care and support for older people. The analysis and comparison of the theoretical approaches reviewed demonstrate that psychological compatibility is a multidimensional socio-psychological phenomenon significantly influenced by personal characteristics, interpersonal relationships, communication, emotional intelligence, value orientations, life experience, and the social environment. Under conditions of long-term cohabitation, the interaction of these factors is particularly important in terms of social adaptation, mutual support, and psychological well-being. The theoretical analysis provides grounds for viewing psychological compatibility as a dynamic process that changes through the interaction between the individual and the social environment. The article also considers the levels of psychological compatibility and highlights the interrelationship of emotional intelligence, value orientations, and interpersonal relationships in the interaction of older people. The presented approach may serve as a theoretical basis for further research into interpersonal relationships and the socio-psychological adaptation of older people, as well as for the development of practical programs aimed at providing socio-psychological support.
