Abstract

This study is devoted to the examination of the principles underlying the artistic creation of Ruben Sevak’s unique image as a Western Armenian intellectual in Andranik Tsarukyan’s novel "Love in the Genocide".

A. Tsarukyan’s novelistic canvas "Love in the Genocide" represents a unique reflection of the topic of the Genocide in Armenian literature, where the author attempts to weave historical documentation with lyrical emotionality. The central character of the novel is the physician and martyred poet Ruben Sevak, through whose image Tsarukyan reveals the tragedy of an intellectual in the context of the clash between love and death.

Tsarukyan presents Sevak not merely as a national martyr, but also as a profoundly emotional personality standing between personal happiness and the suffering of his compatriots. In the novel, the love between Sevak and his wife, Helene, is depicted as a luminous island amidst an all-encompassing nightmare.
